Mason City, IA- Mason City Toros Goaltender Ty Tanton has committed to play ACHA DI College Hockey at Iowa State University, in Ames, Iowa.
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Tanton developed as a player in the Omaha Mastery AAA program, even earning a call-up to the USHL’s Omaha Lancers. He began his career as a full-time junior hockey player with the Saanich Predators of the VIJHL in the 2024-45 season and arrived with the Toros for the 2025-26 season. Tanton has posted a 5-4-1 record this season in the Toros’ net.

Tanton recorded wins in both of the Toros’ victories at the 2025 NA3HL Showcase, including a shutout against the Binghamton Buzz, one of two shutouts the Toros have recorded to this point.
“Ty has been a steady competitor for us in net since joining us,” said Toros Head Coach Alex North. “He shows up every day with the right attitude and work ethic and couldn’t be prouder of him earning this opportunity.”
The Iowa State Cyclones are among the most successful ACHA Division I programs, with a National Championship in their history and five appearances in the Championship Game.
Tanton is the third Toro to make a collegiate commitment this season, following Captains Carter Bollinger & Stone Resch.
The Toros want to congratulate Ty on his collegiate commitment and wish him luck as he embarks on his college hockey career.
