Eric Chaffe stopped 29 shots to pick up his 10th win in net and lead the Mason City Toros to a 3-1 win over the Willmar WarHawks on Saturday afternoon at the Mason City Arena.
The Toros were outshot for the second day in a row but bounced back from their first shutout loss to claim the season series against the WarHawks, 5-3.
Chaffe was in line for his second shutout of the season until Willmar got on the board at 14:15 of the third to cut the Toros’ lead in half. He posted a 2.00 GAA and a .944 save percentage in five games against Willmar this season.
The Toros got goals from a couple defensemen before the WarHawks scored. Matt Kochanowski tallied his first of the season on a two-on-one breakaway at 11:37 of the first. Colin Hedland wristed home a shot from the blueline at 2:27 of the second to add to the lead. Sota Isogai struck on the power play at 16:35 of the third period to cap the scoring with his 20th goal of the season.
The Toros remain at home next weekend when they face the New Ulm Steel at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Jan. 14 is Friends and Family Night prior to the 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
