The Mason City Toros return home to face the Willmar WarHawks on Black Friday at 7:30 p.m. before traveling to Willmar on Saturday at 7:10 p.m. for a home-and-home series.
The Toros swept last weekend’s road trip to Breezy Point against the Minnesota Loons with an 8-3 win the first night and then an 8-1 win the next night. Five different Toros recorded multi-goal games over the weekend and Sota Isogai recorded the 100th point of his junior hockey career with his second goal last Friday.
The WarHawks have already played once this week, as they picked up a 6-3 win over the Alexandria Blizzard two nights ago. Six different WarHawks scored and Willmar struck three time in the second period to seal the victory.
The win marked Willmar’s second consecutive and the first time that they have won back-to-back games since winning three straight Sep. 25 through Oct. 8. The victory on Thanksgiving Eve also moves them ahead of Alexandria for third place in the West Division.
Mason City is 3-0 against Willmar with two-of-the-three meetings coming in the River City. The Toros are outscoring the WarHawks, 11-4, in games at the Mason City Arena. Carter Newpower has scored seven goals in the three games against Willmar including at least two goals in every game.
As part of the Toros’ Black Friday game fans can save on team gear at Brutus’s Locker Room. It’s also the final day of the Toros’ No Shave November contest. If you signed up at the beginning of the month you can come back for this game and have your beard measured. If yours is the longest you will receive a special Toros prize.
