Toros Welcome Loons To River City This Weekend

The Mason City Toros look to continue to inch closer to first place in the NA3HL West Division as they host the Minnesota Loons on Friday and Saturday this weekend at the Mason City Arena.

Mason City (5-3-0-0) is coming off back-to-back wins against the Willmar WarHawks last weekend in a home-and-home series. Carter Newpower scored twice, including once in a three-goal second period, on Oct. 15 to snap the Toros three-game losing streak with a 6-1 win at the Willmar Civic Center. Newpower tallied two more goals the next night and CaL Levis scored a pair to lead Mason City to a 5-1 win at the Mason City Arena.

With six points last weekend, Newpower was honored as the NA3HL West Division Star of the Week. It marked the second time that he has earned the honor this season to go along with claiming the award for the week of Sept. 20-26. Newpower leads Mason City with eight goals and 16 points through eight games.

Minnesota (1-10-0-0) dropped both games against the Granite City LumberJacks last weekend and comes to the River City losers of six in a row. The Loons fell by scores of 9-1 and 9-0 last weekend and were outshot 161-19, including 95-8 last Saturday. Their last win came on Oct. 1, a 3-2 win over the Alexandria Blizzard at the Breezy Point Hockey Center.

Both games start at 7:30 p.m. and can be watched on Hockey TV with a subscription. The North Iowa Figure Skating Club will perform during the first intermission of Friday’s game. Tickets are available at masoncitytoros.com/tickets.
