Toros Top Blizzard For Fourth Straight Win

BOX SCORE

The Mason City Toros scored three times in the first period to pick up a 5-2 win over the Alexandria Blizzard on Saturday afternoon at the Mason City Arena.

Carter Newpower scored twice to record his sixth multi-goal game of the season and the Toros scored three goals in a period for the fourth consecutive game.

Newpower got the Toros on the board first before Sota Isogai struck on the power play seven minutes later. Colin Hedland wrapped up the opening frame with his first of the season with 54 seconds remaining.

Despite taking a three-goal lead into the first intermission and Newpower scoring his second goal, a shorthanded tally, in the second, the Toros allowed two goals in the opening 8:38 of the second period to cut their lead to one goal. Cullen Hogan added a goal in the third period to re-establish Mason City’s three-goal lead.

The Toros look to take both weekend games against the Blizzard when they face them again tomorrow at 6 p.m. It’s Sunday Funday with the Toros and all alcoholic beverages are $1 off. Mason City Youth Hockey players receive free admission and their family members get in for $5. Tickets are available at masoncitytoros.com.
