Toros Shutout WarHawks

Mason City, IA- The Mason City Toros opened their three-game weekend with a convincing shutout of the Willmar WarHawks. Toro goalie Drew Blake stopped all 24 shots he faced in the game, including all 10 in the third period, and made a plethora of ten-bell saves to secure the first shutout of the season for the Toros. 

Four different players scored goals for the Toros. Zach Laurilla’s second goal of the season opened the scoring 17:13 into the first period. Nolan Christy and Mason City native Dominic Despenas scored in the second period to keep up the momentum. And in a third period mostly dominated by penalties, (12 of the game’s 16 infractions came in the final stanza) Aaron Sawicki ripped home his third goal of the season to cap the scoring at 4-0. 

Lino Lakes, MN, native Sam Menne recorded two assists in his first game on home ice. 

Sawicki’s goal gives him eight points in five games played this season, leading the Toros in total scoring. 

Willmar goalie Jesse Easterwood stopped 36 of 40 shots on the evening from Mason City. 

The Toros improves to 4-2 with their third consecutive victory. 

Their jam-packed weekend continues on Saturday night against the defending Fraser Cup Champion Granite City Lumberjacks. Puck drops at 7:10 PM. All Toros games will be broadcast on NAHLTV.com.
