The Mason City Toros lost to the Willmar WarHawks, 4-0, on Friday night at the Willmar Civic Center Arena.
In their first shutout loss of the season the Toros were narrowly outshot, 35-31, but put did outshoot the WarHawks 12-7 in the second period. Mason City allowed a goal in the opening two minutes in each of the first two periods before giving up a pair of goals in the third period.
Goaltender Owen Carlson recorded as many saves as his opponent, Will Kunka, but his 31 stops weren’t enough for Mason City.
The Toros still hold the advantage in the regular-season series with four wins in seven meetings against the WarHawks and can finish with a winning record on Saturday afternoon. Mason City hosts Willmar at 3 p.m. in the final meeting between the two teams this season unless they meet in the postseason. It’s Super Hero Saturday at the Mason City Arena.
