Toros’ Season Ends In Granite City

BOX SCORE

The Mason City Toros fell to the Granite City Lumberjacks, 6-1, in Game 3 of the West Division Finals on Sunday night at the Armadillo Deck Sports Arena to conclude the 2022 season.

Mason City entered the game needing to win to win the West Division Playoffs and earn a spot at the Fraser Cup Championship Tournament later this week. Granite City had already clinched a spot regardless of the result of Sunday night’s game thanks to the Northeast Generals defeating the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks to win the East Division Playoffs. The Lumberjacks’ victory eliminated the Toros from the 2022 postseason.

The Toros scored twice in the first period after the Lumberjacks scored the first two goals of the game. Carter Newpower fired a wrister from the point that snuck in and Luke Stevens evened things up with a redirection for a power play goal goal.

The Lumberjacks took the lead late in the second period on Nicholas Richert’s first-of-three goals on the night and then added three more goals in the third period, including an empty-netter in the final three minutes.
