Toros Rout Loons 17-0

Mason City, IA- There was no lack of scoring on Friday night as the Toros defeated the Minnesota Loons by a final of 17-0.  They saw scoring up and down the roster with twelve different players recording multi-point performances. 
 
Matt Ivanov would open the scoring at the 7:48 mark of the first when he took a pass from Nolan Smith who was set up behind the net and would put a one-time pass to the back of the net. Two minutes later on a similar play, Jax Schauer would cash in on a pass from Nolan Christy to put the Toros up 2-0. Nolan Smith would score on a shorthanded breakaway to extend the lead to 3-0. Sam Menne would put a shot in through the five hole to put the team up 4-0.  They added three more goals before the end of the first period from Nolan Chirsty, Matt Ivanov, and Jax Schauer. The Toros scored 5 goals in a 5:31 stretch late in the frame to conclude the scoring at 7-0 at first intermission. 
 
The second period would see more of the same when Nolan Smith would continue the scoring just twenty-four seconds into the 2nd period to put the Toros up 8-0. Thirty seconds later, David Loahr would add his second of the night when he would take a one-time pass from Marcus Fritel to extend the lead to 9-0.  The Toros would continue lighting the lamp as Dominic Despenas, and Parker McInroy would also record goals in the second.  David Loahr and Matt Ivanov would cash in again in the second and would both record hat tricks in tonight’s game. By the end of the second, the scoreboard read 14-0.
 
The third period would see the Toros go the longest stretch of the night without scoring.  However, they eventually would continue the scoring when 5 minutes into the third period, Marcus Fritel would get his first of the night to put the Toros up 15-0. Before the end of the night, the team would add two more goals as Brayden Fine would record his first of the year and Nolan Christy would get his sixth goal of the year to end the game with a final of 17-0. The Toros were 1 goal away from tying the franchise’s all-time goal record of 18 goals in a game. 16 different players recorded a point in Friday’s game, including goaltender Devin Peck, who recorded an assist to go with a 14 save shutout, his first solo shutout of the season.
