The Mason City Toros open up a new era this weekend as they face the Alexandria Blizzard on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Mason City Arena for their first two regular season games in their inaugural season.
The Toros and the Blizzard are the only two teams in the West Division and two-of-11 teams in the entire NA3HL who have not played a regular season game prior to this weekend.
The Toros defeated the Wausau Cyclones, 7-3, this past Sunday in their only preseason game. Carter Newpower led the scoring barrage with two goals and one assist while the Toros outshot the Cyclones 48-19.
Five members of the 2021 Fraser Cup Champion North Iowa Bulls return to Mason City to again compete at the NA3HL level, but this time as members of the Toros. Jack Campion, Shota Kaneko, Sota Isogai, Newpower and Brendan Sloth all return and will also all be team captains for the 2021-22 season.
The Bulls dropped six-of-10 meetings with the Blizzard last season but took two-of-three from Alexandria in the first round of the playoffs en route to the franchise’s fourth Fraser Cup Championship.
The first 200 fans at Saturday’s game will receive a schedule poster of all Bulls and Toros home games for the 2021-22 season. Tickets for the season opener and all other home games can be purchased at masoncitytoros.com/tickets.
