Nathan Gilleshammer scored twice, Owen Carlson posted a shutout and the Mason City Toros shut out the Gillette Wild, 4-0, to open the NA3HL Showcase on Monday night at the Super Rink in Blaine, Minn.
The Toros dealt the Wild just their third loss of the season and snapped their own two game-losing streak with a win Monday. Both of Gilleshammer’s goals came in the first period and Carlson turned aside all 27 shots that he faced to record his first and Mason City’s second shutout of the season.
Carter Newpower deflected home a Matt Kochanowsni shot in the second and Sota Isogai ripped home a one-timer in the third to wrap up the scoring.
The Toros have a quick turnaround as they face the Northeast Generals Tuesday morning at 11:45 a.m. Northeast defeated Rochester 2-1 in overtime on Monday to improve to 22-0-0-0.
