The Mason City Toros close out a six consecutive home game stretch with a 7:30 p.m. game against the Willmar WarHawks tonight at the Mason City Arena.
The Toros, who have won three of the first five games during this homestand, start a three-games-in-three days stretch on Thursday. Following their game with Willmar they will hit the road for two games against the New Ulm Steel on Friday and Saturday.
Mason City swept a home-and-home series with Willmar last month, defeating them 6-1 at the Willmar Civic Center on Oct. 22 and 5-1 the next night at the Mason City Arena. The WarHawks outshot the Toros 48-38 and 40-32 but could not pick up a win. Carter Newpower scored four goals and added two assists in the two games to earn the NA3HL West Division Star of the Week.
The Toros picked up one point last weekend against the Granite City Lumberjacks. Mason City fell 5-2 last Friday before forcing overtime but losing 2-1 the next night. Dillon Schmidt scored in both games and enters the weekend on a four-game goal-scoring streak.
Willmar only played once last weekend but defeated the Minnesota Loons, 6-1, last Saturday. Though he did not record a point in that win, Jeremiah Konkel leads Minnesota with 9 goals and 19 points. His 10 assists are tied for the team lead and he has recorded a point in all but three games this season.
The Toros open up the month of November by beginning their “No Shave November” contest. Fans interested in competing must come to the game clean-shaven, sign up on the concourse and then come back to the Toros game on Nov. 26 to have their beard measured. If it is the longest among contestants, then you win a suite to an upcoming Toros game. Additionally, children 12-and-under receive admission for just $5 on Thursday.
