The Mason City Toros welcome the New Ulm Steel to town on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The two teams were originally set to play twice this weekend but Friday’s game was postponed due to travel complications.
This is just the third meeting between Mason City and New Ulm and the first since Nov. 5-6 when the Toros won 7-3 and 6-2, respectively, on the road. Jack Campion and Shota Kaneko scored twice in the first game before Sota Isogai and Carter Newpower scored a pair of goals apiece the next night.
Last weekend, Mason City wrapped up its season series with Willmar by splitting a pair of games. the WarHawks picked up their fourth consecutive shutout and eighth consecutive win by defeating the Toros, 4-0 on Jan. 7. Despite their five-game winning streak getting snapped, the Toros bounced back the next day, defeating the WarHawks, 3-1, on Jan. 8 Erik Chaffe stopped 29-of-30 shots, a pair of defenseman scored as Matt Kochanowski and Colin Hedland found the back of the net and Sota Isogai scored his 20th goal of the season. Mason City ends the season 5-3 against Willmar and is on pace to face them in the first round of the playoffs if both teams remain where they are in the standings.
The Steel sit in fifth place in the West division and lost both games last weekend against the Granite City LumberJacks. They made a coaching change in early December with Erick Bromberg taking over for Curtis Doell. The Steel are 3-4 since that change behind the bench on Dec. 7.
New Ulm is the only team in the West division that Mason City has not faced at the Mason City Arena this season.
