The Mason City Toros (10-4-1-0) look to build off their three-game win streak as they face the Alexandria Blizzard (7-6-0-0) on Saturday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (6 p.m.) at the Mason City Arena.
The Toros won all three games last weekend, first taking down the Willmar WarHawks, 6-3, at home before 7-3 and 6-2 wins on the road against the New Ulm Steel. Mason City’s top line of Carter Newpower, Jack Campion and Sota Isogai led the way, scoring nine of the team’s 19 goals. Campion earned the NA3HL’s West Division Star of the Week after scoring three goals and adding five assists. He leads the Toros with 30 points and is tied for the team lead with 13 goals.
This weekend’s games will be the third and fourth against Alexandria, all of which have come at the Mason City Arena. The Toros opened up the 2021-22 season on Sep. 25 and 26 with 8-5 and 3-2 wins, respectively. Newpower scored three times and Campion twice, including the game-winner on the 26th.
The Blizzard enter this weekend finding the back of the net regularly and racking up wins, similar to the Toros. Alexandria has won four straight games and is outscoring opponents 25-5 in that span after winning three straight New Ulm before defeating the Minnesota Loons, 8-1, last Friday. The Blizzard have won seven of their last 10 games and sit a point behind Willmar for third place in the NA3HL West Division.
Saturday’s game is the Toros’ “Five For Fighting” promotion. Kids 12-and-under get in for $5, fans receive $5 off a merchandise purchase of $50-or-more and draft beers are two for $5. The Toros are celebrating “Sunday Funday” the next day with $1 off all alcohol purchases and Mason City Youth Hockey players receive free admission while their family members get in for just $5. Tickets can be purchased at masoncitytoros.com.
