Mason City, IA – The Mason City Toros are excited to announce that Alex North has been hired as the new Head Coach of the Toros.

Coach North brings a tremendous amount of experience to the Head Coach position. The Faribault, Minnesota native served as the Assistant Coach on last season’s North Iowa Bulls of the NAHL, helping the team to an 8 win improvement from the prior season.

Coach North is in his second stint in Mason City. He served on the NA3 Bulls’ bench for the 2013-14 season, helping the Bulls to their second consecutive Fraser Cup Championship, and a runner-up spot at the USA Hockey Tier III National Championships. North later served on the bench of the NAHL’s Coulee Region Chill for the 2015-17 seasons. In 2022, North became the Head Coach of the NA3HL’s New Ulm Steel, where he served in that capacity for two seasons, guiding the team to a significant record improvement.

The next season, North became the Associate Head Coach of the Helena Bighorns. During the 2023-24 season, North helped lead the Bighorns to a dominant 44-2-1 Regular Season record to win the NA3HL’s Regular Season Championship; followed up by a clean sweep of the postseason to win the Frontier Division Championship and North’s second Fraser Cup of his career.

The Shattuck-St. Mary’s alum played three seasons of junior hockey split between the NAHL & MJHL before playing NCAA DIII Hockey for Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
