Granite City struck 29 seconds into overtime on the power play to defeat the Mason City Toros, 2-1, on Saturday night at the Mason City Arena.
Bjorn Jorgensen struck on a one-timer off a feed from Tal Halliday to give the Lumberjacks their eighth consecutive win.
Mason City’s lone goal came from Dillon Schmidt at the 14:53 mark of the second. It was his fourth of the season, all of which have come in the last four games.
Erik Chaffe turned aside 29-of-31 shots in net for Mason City.
Granite City took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission for the second consecutive game. Saturday, it was Wyatt Halvorson striking with his first of the season at the 17:23 mark of the first period.
The Toros will play three games this coming week beginning on Thursday. They will host the Willmar WarHawks before facing the New Ulm Steel on the road Friday and Saturday. Thursday’s game is the beginning of the Toros’ “No Shave November” contest. Fans interested in competing simply have to come to the 7:30 p.m. game clean-shaven, sign up on the concourse and then come back to the Toros’ game on Black Friday to see if you have the biggest beard in Mason City.
