Toros Fall in Home Opener to Blizzard

Mason City, IA- The Mason City Toros fell in their home opener against the defending West Division Champion Alexandria Blizzard by a 6-2 final. 

Hermantown, Minnesota, native Dominic Thomas recorded both of the Toros’ goals. The first came 12:24 into the opening stanza to tie the game at 1-1 after Alexandria’s Eli Fletcher opened the scoring 6:29 into the matchup. Thomas potted his second goal 50 seconds into the third period off a clean faceoff win by Bryan Wiggins, who recorded the first point of his Toros’ and NA3HL career on the play. 

Unfortunately, the Toros could not keep up with the Blizzard’s offense. Eli Fletcher scored a second goal for in his first game in the NA3HL. Reece Hubmer, Caleb Waller, Karsten Senden, and Matt McIntyre all recorded goals for Alexandria as well. 

Toros goaltender Devin Peck recorded 23 saves, including a few highlight caliber saves to keep the game close in the first period. 

Blizzard goaltender Nolan Lacosse notched a 29 save performance in his first game for Alexandria. The Stillwater, Minnesota, native spent last season playing for the New Ulm Steel. 

Mason City falls to 1-2 after splitting last weekend in Breezy Point against the Minnesota Loons. Alexandria improves to 1-0 with their season opening victoriously.
