The Mason City Toros lost for the just second time this season when leading after one period as they fell to the Alexandria Blizzard, 3-2, on Sunday night at Runestone Community Center in Alexandria.
The Toros’ season-best six-game win streak came to an end in their final road game of the regular season. Luke Stevens scored the game’s lone goal in the first period but the Blizzard scored the next three goals, including twice in the third period to break a 1-1 tie. Blake Ulve struck at the 18:24 mark of the third for his first of the season.
Mason City entered Sunday’s game 27-1-0-0 when leading after one period and 22-2-0-0 when outshooting their opponent but the Toros’ 44-33 advantage in shots was not enough.
Mason City now has four home games remaining before the start of the postseason. They host the New Ulm Steel Feb. 25-26 at 7:30 p.m. both nights at the Mason City Arena. The Toros will sport specialty red, white and blue jerseys for both games that will be auctioned off after the Feb. 26 game. Tickets can be purchased at masoncitytoros.com.
