Toros Drop Series Finale in Peoria

Peoria, IL- The Mason City Toros dropped their series finale against the Peoria Mustangs in a 3-2 final at the Owens Center on Saturday night. 

Mason City dominated the shot counter in each period, 15-12 in the first, 18-13 in the second, and 16-6 in the third. Yet Peoria jumped off the blocks quickly in the first period. Aiden Marceau and Robin Kuusik scored the in the first period for the Mustangs. Kuusik added a second goal in the second period to stake the Mustangs to a 3-0 lead. 

Dominic Thomas took up the scoring load for Mason City, scoring both Toro goals in the second period, the 17th and 18th of his season. Despite controlling the pace of the game, Mason City could not get another puck through Peoria goaltender Travis Visvadra. The Huntley, IL, native put up a season high 47 saves on 49 shots faced in net, leading the Mustangs to a win and a split series with the Toros. 

Drew Blake stopped 28 of 31 shots on his net. 

Mason City returns home for a three game homestand next weekend. Thursday sees the Toros take on the Willmar Warhawks while Friday and Saturday feature a two-game set against the Minnesota Loons. The Thursday and Friday games begin at 7:10 PM while Saturday’s game is a 2:10 PM matinee.
