The Toros finished their 3-game homestand Sunday with a win over the visiting Willmar Warhawks. Dakota Lenz got the Toros on the board when he redirected a shot from Carter Newpower on the power play.
Willmar would answer back in the 2nd with 2 quick goals before Matt Kochanowski would send one over the glove of Willmar goaltender Zackary Ortolano that would find the back of the twine and quickly come back out. The referees were quick to call it a goal on the ice and Mason City would tie it up. Willmar would get a shorthanded goal to end the 2nd up 3-2.
With the Toros current record of 4 wins and 3 losses after trailing after 2, it was all systems go as Mason city would set their sights on the comeback, and what a comeback it was! At the 12:40 mark of the 3rd, Willmar forward Tyler Misialek would take a holding minor that would send the Toros to the power play. At the 13:59 mark of the 3rd, Colin Hedland would roof a pass from Carter Newpower over the glove of Zackary Ortolano and the Toros would tie it up and force overtime.
Captain Carter Newpower would secure the win in overtime when Zach Laurila would receive a pass and break out in a 2-on-1 with teammate Carter Newpower. Laurila would find Newpower on the left side and Newpower would send one to the back of the net giving the Toros the Overtime victory.
Next up for the Toros is a road game on Sat, Jan. 28th against New Ulm before returning to home ice on Sat, Feb 4th to take on the Willmar Warhawks with live streaming coverage on HockeyTV.
