Willmar, MN- The Mason City Toros thumped the Willmar WarHawks on Saturday night with a 7-1 final score to take one step closer to punching their ticket to the 2026 Fraser Cup Playoffs.
TJ Gibson led the way with a pair of goals and an assist to power the offense with three points. Gibson opened the scoring just 2:34 into the game and set the tone for the night. He added another tally in the second period to take the Toro’s lead in goal scoring with 22 on the season.
Luke Gustafson added three points with a goal and a pair of assists to take the Toros’ overall scoring lead with 47 points.
Stone Resch added the Toros’ third goal of the first period to extend the lead going into the first intermission.
After Gibson’s goal answered former Toro Lucas Thelen netting the only goal of the night for the WarHawks, the Toros added three more goals in the third to seal the night. Mason Buchanan, Cooper Hedin, and Michael Ertle all notched scores to finish the night at 7-2 favoring the Toros.
Bloomington, MN, native Jannes Kamp recorded a 32 save victory and added an assist, the first assist for a Toros goaltender this season.
Mason City gets their 19th victory of the season and goes up by 10 points in the Western Division standings with just five games remaining in the regular season schedule. Willmar has two games in hand, but the Toros took a step closer to sealing a spot in the postseason.
The Toros return home next weekend for a Saturday matinee on February 21st against the Minnesota Moose. Puck drop is at 3 PM.
