MASON CITY, Iowa – As the 2022-23 season approaches, the Mason City Toros are continuing their march toward opening night, announcing a busy promotional schedule for the year to come. However, with 18 dates listed out of 23 – including the Toros’ preseason home game on September 11 – there is still room to grow this year’s promo list as the season unfolds.
The season begins in earnest, though unofficially, on September 11 with a 1 p.m. preseason game against the Frisk Asker U20 team from Frisk, Norway. The Frisk Asker U20 team is a junior side affiliated with the Fjordkraftligaen’s Frisk Asker club, making a swing through the Midwestern United States before starting their own season in Europe. The game will feature a postgame meet-and-greet skate, allowing fans to meet their favorite new Toros players and catch up with returning players from last year’s group.
After opening the home schedule on Friday, October 7 against the Rochester Grizzlies, the Toros will bring back their Fall Into Hockey promotion October 21 and 22 against the Alexandria Blizzard. Friday’s game marks the return of the fall treats baking contest, which proved to be a popular addition to the Toros’ inaugural season last year.
The sole home game in November comes on Sunday afternoon, November 6 against the Willmar WarHawks as the team recognizes its military members in the community ahead of Veterans’ Day. Plans are also being nailed down for Mason City’s Holiday Happenings promotion December 8 and 9 against the Granite City Lumberjacks, marking the final Toros home games of 2022.
The famed Marvel superhero characters will make their return to downtown Mason City on Sunday, January 22 for Marvel-ous Day against Willmar. The final 10 games of the regular season will all be played on home ice in February and March, leaving lots of opportunities to see the Toros during the home stretch – fans are invited to take part in a Toro BOGO promotion on Saturday, February 11 against the New Ulm Steel for National Friends’ Day, as well as “Tackles and Toros” the following day to celebrate the most super Sunday of the season.
The final three Sunday games of the year on February 19 and 26 and March 5 cap a list of seven Sunday home games for the Toros this season. For just $75 for adults and $40 for kids under the age of 13, fans can pre-purchase “Sunday Funday” ticket packages that feature all seven Sunday home games, plus the North Iowa Bulls’ January 1 game against the Austin Bruins, and two flex tickets that can be used for any Bulls or Toros game during the 2022-23 season. February packages are also available for the same price, covering all eight Toros regular-season home games in the busiest month of the season as well as two flex tickets.
The highlight of the season, as in past years, is the Toros’ jersey auction weekends – two such weekends are on the docket for this year, scheduled for December 2 and 3 against the Minnesota Loons, followed by the “Out of the Darkness” jersey auction weekend January 20 and 21 against the Loons. Mason City will wear its special jerseys in both games of the weekend, with a postgame skate and live jersey auction scheduled after the Saturday contest.
The promotional list could see some additional growth as excitement builds through the season, with five open dates on that list in February and March. Season tickets remain available for the Toros’ 2022-23 schedule, and single-game tickets go on sale September 1.
