Toros Advance To West Finals

BOX SCORE

The Mason City Toros swept the Willmar WarHawks with a 6-3 victory in Game 2 of the West Division Semifinals on Friday night at the Willmar Civic Center.

The Toros scored three times in the first period and never trailed after Cullen Hogan scored at the 11:17 mark of the period. It marked the second consecutive day that Mason City struck three times in the same frame after tallying thrice in the second period in Game 1.

Blake Ulve added the second goal of the game and his third of the postseason after scoring twice in Game 1. Ulve has now scored in three straight games and five-of-the-last-seven with 14 points in that span.

Luke Stevens also scored for the second day in a row with the final of the Toros three goals in the first period.

The WarHawks scored late in the first to make it a two-goal game but that was as close as it would get. Brendan Sloth and Derek Humphreys gave the Toros breathing room before Sota Isogai added an empty-netter in the third in between Willmar goals.

Owen Carlson started in net for the second straight night and picked up the win by stopping 43-of-46 shots

The Toros await the winner of the Granite City-Alexandria series as their opponent in the West Division Finals. The Lumerjacks defeated the Blizzard, 9-1, on Friday night in Game 1. Game 2 is set for Saturday night at 7:10 p.m. at Alexandria.
