Mason City, IA- Mason City Toros defenseman Sam Menne has committed to play NCAA DIII Hockey at Hamline University, in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
The Lino Lakes, MN, native played two seasons on the Toros’ blue line, suiting up for 89 games in a Toros jersey. Menne scored 12 goals and 57 assists for 69 points. Sam was a big part of the Toros’ 2024 postseason push. During the 2024-25 season, Menne was given a letter and wore his “A” with pride. He led the Toros in blue-line scoring and recorded the 12th most points among all NA3HL defensemen. His 28 assists ranked 9th among all NA3HL defensemen, and his 12 power play assists tied him for 7th among all NA3HL defensemen.
Menne was selected to represent the Toros at the 2025 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament. He recorded an assist in the two games he played in Plymouth, MI.
“I thought Sam was a great leader for us,” said Toros Head Coach Mark Hicks. “He stepped up in the locker room for our younger guys this season. His skillset will translate well to college. He excels on the power play, and I’m proud of all he accomplished this season and in his junior hockey career here in Mason City.”
Hamline University competes in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and has won their conference championship twice. Hamline is the oldest college in the state of Minnesota.
