Mason City Hosts Rochester Tonight

GAME NOTES

The Mason City Toros face the Rochester Grizzlies tonight at 7 p.m. at the Mason City Arena for the third meeting between the two teams.

The Toros were originally scheduled to play at Rochester on Friday but that game was postponed due to anticipated inclement weather. The game will be played this coming Saturday, Dec. 18, at 7:05 p.m. at the Rochester Rec Center.

Mason City won both games at the Minnesota Loons last weekend to stretch its road winning streak to eight games. The Toros set their single-game high for goals in a 12-2 win last Friday then recorded its first shutout of the season with an 8-0 win the next night.

Jack Campion earned the NA3HL West Division Star of the Week for scoring two goals and adding five assists in the two wins over the Loons. It’s the second time that Campion has earned the honor after claiming it Nov. 1-7. This is the fifth time that a Toros player has won the West Division Star of the Week after Sota Isogai won it for Oct. 18-24 and Carter Newpower claimed it for Sep. 20-26 and against Oct. 11-17.

Mason City faced Rochester earlier this season and dropped both games Oct. 8-9. The Grizzlies came out roaring on Oct. 8, scoring four goals in the first period. The two teams combined for eight goals in the second period but Rochester skated away with an eventual 9-4 victory.

The next night, Mason City trailed 2-0 after the first period but Dillon Schmidt scored in the second period and then Sota Isogai tallied on the power play 6:21 into the third period. However, Rochester struck at the 16:43 mark and then added a pair of empty-net goals in the final two minutes to sweep the weekend with a 5-2 win.

Fans who bring in a donation to Toys For Tots get in to tonight’s game for just $5. Additionally, fans who are 12-and-under get in for free.
