Mason City, IA- Mason City Toros forward and Captain, Marcus Fritel, was named the NA3HL West Division Star of the Week for the week of November 25th to December 1st. In the two game series against the Granite City Lumberjacks, the Toros Captain posted a hat trick on Saturday night and added an assist to split the weekend set with the top team in the division and help return the Toros to a postseason spot.
The Elk River, Minnesota, native has had a remarkable season. In 21 games, Fritel has posted a team leading 14 goals, tied the team lead with 15 assists, and posted a team high of 29 points. In the NA3HL at large, Fritel ranks 20th in goal scoring and 26th in overall scoring. In the West Division, the Toros’ Captain is the top goal scorer and second leading overall scorer after Alexandria’s Eli Fletcher.
“Frits has been an amazing leader all year. His work ethic and attitude is contagious,” stated Mason City Head Coach Mark Hicks. “Everyone here was excited to see him produce and put us over the top for a much-needed win. Any college that gets him is getting a great 200-foot player and even a better person.”
Fritel is the third Toro to earn a Star of the Week Honor this season. Teis Larsen and Kellen Kantaris are the other two.
