Luke Gustafson Named Captain

Jan 7, 2026

Mason City, IA – The Mason City Toros are excited to announce that Luke Gustafson has been named Co-Captain of the team for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

Gustafson, a forward hailing from San Jose, CA, arrived to the Toros after a full season with the North American Hockey League’s North Iowa Bulls. So far this year, Gustafson has authored an excellent season on the ice with 14 goals, 22 assists, and 36 points in 29 games played. He is tied for the Toros’ scoring lead with fellow Californian forward Christian Plaga and leads the team in assists. He’s also tied for second in the entire NA3HL in shorthanded goals with 3.

“Gus has been a leader all season, even without a letter on his chest,” said Toros Head Coach Alex North. “He shows up, works every day and his productivity is a product of that hard work.”

Gustafson joins a leadership group that includes Stone Resch as Co-Captain, and TJ Gibson, Grant Harder, and Kellen Kantaris as a trio of Assistant Captains. Carter Bollinger served as Captain until earning an opportunity to play NCAA DIII Hockey at the University of Wisconsin-Stout for the second semester of the season.

Gustafson’s first game wearing the Captain’s C will be on Saturday, January 10th at the Afton Ice Rink in Afton, Missouri, when the Toros matchup against the St. Louis Jr. Blues.
