Kellen Kantaris Named Star of the Week

Jan 5, 2026

Mason City, IA- Mason City Toros forward Kellen Kantaris began 2026 by earning the NA3HL West Division’s Star of the Week Honors for the calendar’s opening weekend of games.

In the Toros’ two-game series against the Minnesota Wilderness in Eveleth, the Mason City native opened with a bang, recording two goals to power the Toros to a 5-3 victory. The next night, he tied his career high for points in a game with four. He recorded three assists and his third goal of the weekend to put the finishing touches on an 8-4 win and a sweep of the Wilderness.

“Kellen has been a leader for us all season and it doesn’t always show on the scoresheet,” said Toros Head Coach Alex North. “His persistence and work ethic paid off this weekend and I’m glad he is getting this recognition.”

Kantaris’ prior career high came on October 25th, 2024, when he hung a two goal, two assist performance on the board in an 8-1 victory over the Willmar WarHawks. That performance, paired with a strong two point outing the next game against the Minnesota Moose, got Kellen his first Star of the Week honor in October of 2024, early in his first full-time Toros season after concluding his high school playing career for the Mason City Mohawks.

Kellen is the third different Toro to earn a Divisional Star of the Week. Jason Williams (September) and TJ Gibson (October) were the first two.

The Toros’ weekend sweep of the Wilderness improves the team’s record to 15-13-4-0 and runs the team’s winning streak to three games. Mason City travels to St. Louis for their last regular season non-divisional matchup this weekend on
