Sota Isogai and Matt Kochanowski both scored for the third time in the last four games but the Mason City Toros fell to the Granite City Lumberjacks, 5-2, on Saturday night at the Armadillo Deck Sports Arena.
Isogai put the Toros on the board first for his 22nd goal of the season. He has now matched his total from the 2019-20 season, his first in the NA3HL. Isogai scored 22 goals in 43 games that year and has scored as many in 13 fewer games this season. He’s in the midst of a torrid stretch in which he has scored 17 goals in his last 19 games. Since the start of November Isogai has not gone back-to-back games without scoring a goal.
Kochanowski scored his third of the season at 1:48 of the second period, less than a minute after Granite City took the lead.
The Toros could not overcome allowing three power play goals in the second and being outshot, 41-17. Erik Chaffe turned aside 36-of-40 shots.
Mason City’s next game is against the New Ulm Steel next Saturday, Jan. 29, at the New Ulm Civic Center.
