Head Coach Mark Hicks Steps Down

Mason City, IA- The Mason City Toros are announcing today that Head Coach Mark Hicks has chosen to step down as the Head Coach of the team. 

Coach Hicks served as the Head Coach of the Toros for two seasons, securing a postseason spot in the 2023-24 season. Hicks’ tenure saw a plethora of successes, including 10 collegiate hockey commitments, 8 of which were NCAA commitments. Five different Toros earned league-wide honors as Division Players of the Week while under his tutelage, and Miles Berg earned the 2024 NA3HL’s Defenseman of the Year. In addition, The Toros produced 26 NAHL advancements between in-season call ups and tenders.

Prior to becoming the Toros’ Head Coach, Hicks authored a decorated coaching career in Mason City. As an Assistant Coach with the NA3HL’s North Iowa Bulls, Hicks helped Mason City become a centerpiece of the NA3HL landscape. He helped lead the Bulls to the Fraser Cup four times in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2021. He also helped lead the Bulls to a USA Hockey National Runner Up in 2014 and a pair of USA Hockey National Championships in 2013 & 2015. 

The Toros thank Coach Hicks for his contributions to the organization as Head Coach.
