Cullen Hogan scored twice to record his fifth multi-goal game of the season but the Mason City Toros fell to the Granite City Lumberjacks, 7-5, on Friday night at the Armadillo Deck Sports Arena.
Granite City broke a 5-5 tie at the 17:44 mark of the third and then added an empty netter with eight seconds remaining to pick up its 28th consecutive win.
Mason City also got goals from each member of its top line, Carter Newpower, Derek Humphrey and Sota Isogai, but it would not be enough.
Newpower followed up Hogan in the second period after Hogan’s second goal of the game to give the Toros their second of three different leads in the game. Humphrey broke a 3-3 tie in the third before Isogai tied the game back up after back-to-back Lumberjacks goals.
The Toros face the Lumberjacks again on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
