Goals Early and Often Lead Toros to Win

BOX SCORE

The Mason City Toros used back-to-back three-goal periods to pick up a 7-2 win over the Willmar WarHawks on Saturday night at the Willmar Civic Center Arena.

Seven different Toros scored, including Brendan Sloth 10 seconds after the opening puckdrop to give Mason City a permanent lead.

Despite the Toros taking a 3-0 lead into the first intermission the WarHawks cut the deficit to one with two goals eight seconds apart in the second period. Mason City responded by scoring two goals in the ensuing 1:37 to regain a three-goal lead.

In addition to Sloth, Jack Campion, Cullen Hogan, Carter Newpower, Nathan Gilleshammer, Zach Giblin and Luke Robertson also found the back of the net.

Erik Chaffe stopped 33-of-35 shots to earn his team-high sixth win.

The Toros face the Minnesota Loons on the road again next weekend for two games. Mason City swept a two-game series against Minnesota with 8-3 and 8-1 wins last weekend.
