Fritel’s Hat Trick Powers Toros Preseason Win

Mason City, IA- The Mason City Toros skated for the first time as a unit against outside competition on Sunday against Frisk Asker U20 of the Norwegian Junior League and rode an offensive in the second period to a 7-2 victory in the team’s lone preseason game.

Elk River, MN, native Marcus Fritel led the way with a hat trick. He opened the scoring to get the Toros on the board early in the second period, gave the Toros the lead later in the frame, and capped the scoring late in the third period on a power play wrister. Fritel recorded 5 goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 24 games for the Toros last season in his first season in the NA3HL and figures to be an important part of the Toros this season.

Aaron Sawicki recorded the equalizing goal in the second period. Donovan Bradford, Easton Tok, and Zach Laurila all added goals in the effort as well.

Hermantown, MN, native Dominic Thomas and Sartell, MN, native Carter Bollinger recorded two assists each. Ayden Boyd (Amarillo, TX), Josh Elias (San Fransisco, CA), and Miles Berg (Lynnwood, WA) all recorded an assist each, making ten different point scorers for the Toros.

Mason City opens the 2023-24 NA3HL season against the Minnesota Loons at the Breezy Point Ice Center in Breezy Point, MN, on September 15th and 16th. All Toros regular season and postseason games will be broadcast on NAHLTV.com.
