Five Toros To Represent Team At NA3HL Top Prospects

Owen Carlson, Shota Kaneko, Brendan Sloth and Rex Staudacher have been chosen to represent the Mason City Toros at the NA3HL’s Top Prospects Tournament Feb. 7 and 8 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Pa.

All four players will suit up for Team White and play at 1:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 7 and 9 a.m. ET on Feb. 8. Toros head coach Nick Bruneteau was selected as an assistant coach for Team Black.

The Top Prospects Tournament serves as an opportunity for NA3HL players to be scouted. The UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex is the practice home to the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins.

Carlson has led all Toros netminders with 17 starts between the pipes. The Esko, Minn. native also leads Mason City goalies with a 2.29 GAA, 11 wins and three shutouts.

Kaneko returned to Mason City after winning the Fraser Cup last year and has tripled his point production from a year ago. The Tokyo, Japan, native has nine goals and 16 assists in 27 games. He has provided depth as a third-line winger and has seven multi-point games this season.

Sloth is also in his second season in Mason City. The Toros defenseman and captain has become the team’s top defenseman by averaging a point a game. The Anoka, Minn. native has four goals and 26 assists through his first 29 games, surpassing last season’s point total by 26 in only five more games.

Staudacher leads all Toros’ defensemen with six goals and is second with 28 points. The Yorkville, Ill. native has recorded eight multi-point games and is currently riding a four-game point streak.
