Erik Chaffe turned aside all 13 shots that he faced and the Mason City Toros defeated the Minnesota Loons, 8-0, on Saturday night at the Breezy Point Hockey Center.
Carter Newpower scored twice to give him four goals on the weekend and his eighth multi-goal game of the season. Mason City scored five goals in the second period to match Friday night’s first-period effort for their most goals in a period this season.
The Toros improve to 6-0 against the Loons this season and have outscored them 54-9. Mason City and Minnesota will wrap up their regular-season series Feb. 11-12 at the Mason City Arena.
The Toros’ first shutout of the season also was their eighth consecutive road victory. They will look to extend that streak on Friday against the Rochester Grizzlies at 7:05 p.m. The Toros’ last road loss came at Rochester on Oct. 9.
Mason City’s next home game is on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. against the Rochester Grizzlies. The Toros are holding a toy donation for Toys for Tots at the game. Fans who donate a toy get in for just $5. Kids 12-and-under receive free admission for the game. Tickets can be purchased at masoncitytoros.com.
