Campion’s Late Tally Seals Toros Win

Jack Campion scored at 18:51 of the third period and the Mason City Toros took both of their season-opening games against the Alexandria Blizzard, 3-2, on Sunday night at Mason City Arena.

Carter Newpower scored the game’s first goal at 4:54 of the first and then assisted on the game’s two other goals. He now has three goals and three assists through two games to lead the Toros in both categories.

Sota Isogai also recorded his second consecutive multi-point game with two assists. Cullen Hogan scored the Toros’ other goal at 18:15 in the first period for his first tally of the season.

Mason City scored twice in the first but Alexandria tied it up with a late second-period goal and the equalizer at 14:35 of the third. Campion tallied just over four minutes later on the power play after receiving a pass in the slot and outdeking Alexandria goalie Bailey Rosch with a backhander.

The Toros improve to 2-0 and head to the road this coming Friday to face the Granite City Lumberjacks for the first of two games, both of which will take place at 7:30. Mason City returns home on Friday, Oct. 8 to host the Rochester Grizzlies. Tickets for that game as well as all remaining Toros home games can be purchased at
